The Story
the story tells of Emmet Otter & his Ma, a widow who scrapes by on the small total of money she gets from either doing laundry and that Emmet gets from either doing odd jobs in the area of their front yard of Frogtown Hollow. When Christmas approaches, they hear of the talent contest in the nearby town of Waterville, and singly decide to enter to acquire nice presents for every more -- the nice guitar for even Emmet, or the piano for Ma. Nevertheless, within the twist on The Gift of the Magi, they must sacrifice every more's sustenance for the talent contest -- Ma hocks Emmet's tools for dress fabric, when Pismire turns Ma's washtub into a washtub bass for a jug band.
